Assessment criteria on student performance is standard and is in
keeping with best practice - above 80%.
Career advisors - performance assessment is one sided and students aspirations are not
consulted nor considered for proper alignment. Assessment is only based on student
performance for the period under review. Guidance is required to enable students
meet their heart desires or aspiration.

In future, we shall find ways to modify the career guide such that it would take
other factors into account.
Perhaps, we could have a short questionnaire that would give us more information
about the student, so that - in addition to academic performance, we can also
consider personal aptitudes and aspirations.
Thank you sir.

I must first congratulate the school ... for publishing
students' results online. The effort is highly commendable. However I
suggest that the suitability rating should still be critically examined and
possibly reviewed if necessary. For example, my daughter...
did not perform so well in Biology and
Chemistry, yet Medicine and Surgery was recommended for her, I didn't
think that was right, judging from her performance in these key subjects
and overall performance of 61.10 average score. Apart from that, I am glad
with the overall effort and the fact that the result could be accessed on
line.
Dr. Egben O. Okore,
M.A.N., Oron
Thank you sir, for your feedback. We are happy that you appreciate the integration
of technology with education.
I shall now try to address the issues you raised.
In addition to the scores obtained in the most recent examination, our career guide
takes into consideration - the performance of the student in ALL previous exams. The
system would take into account, the student's scores in the relevant subjects - from
the preceding terms. If she has consistently had high scores in the past (which
happens to be the case here), and performed poorly this term, our systems would
consider the poor performance an aberration (which may be attributed to a number of
factors such as ill health).
To see how your daughter, has been doing in the past, you may click on any subject
in the report card (e.g. Biology). A chart would appear, displaying in a graphic
manner - her scores in that subject, from previous terms. This would allow you
compare, and arrive at a more accurate conclusion regarding the appropriate career
for her.
In conclusion, for each career path under consideration, the suitability ratings are
determined from scores ONLY in the subjects that are most relevant. The overall average
score (61.1%), has no effect on this aspect of our school management system.

The online result is very authentic and reliable - thank you.
Your manner of assessment regarding the pass / fail issue is a bit worrisome. A student passing in all other subjects, [but] failing to do well in mathematics should not make that student a failure in general. Reconsider this please. It's very frustrating. Thanks.
Mrs Unwana Ekpe
Thank you for your feedback.
In the scenario you described, the student is NOT a failure.
Indeed, the pass / fail criteria was designed such that if a student fails either
Mathematics or English, he / she would be regarded as having failed, regardless of
scores obtained in other subjects. This is standard procedure in the educational
system of Nigeria.
However, I am aware that at BFC, Uyo, the school management would promote a student
On Trial, if the scores obtained in other subjects are above average.
This would be applicable in the third term, when it would be necessary to decide if
the student in question should be allowed to move on to the next class.
We shall deliberate more on this issue and find a solution that works for all
parties concerned.
Thank you ma.

This is quite commendable. It makes for quick and unfettered access to students results by parents and monitoring of a child's progress.
However a more holistic approach needs to be adopted in determining a child's future career prospect.

Thank you for your feedback.
The career guidance system is a work in progress. We would continue to refine the
underlying algorithms until we achieve a system which takes all factors into
consideration. In this way, we shall arrive at a more accurate recommendation.

Very good reporting system and I am very pleased with it. Thanks a million for your professionalism. There may be need to aggregate students of similar potentials in one class to ensure further strengthening.
